The Story of Lord Rama and His Mother, Kaushalya (from the Ramayana)

One of the most famous and revered stories in Indian mythology is that of Lord Rama and his mother, Queen Kaushalya. The Ramayana, written by the sage Valmiki, tells the story of Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, who is exiled to the forest for fourteen years due to the wishes of his stepmother, Kaikeyi.

• Mother’s Sacrifice: When Kaushalya, his biological mother, hears that her son has been sent into exile, she is heartbroken. However, she supports his decision, understanding that his duty (dharma) must come before personal desires. Kaushalya gives Rama her blessings and advises him to follow the path of righteousness.

• The Heart-wrenching Separation: As Rama leaves for the forest, Kaushalya’s pain is evident, but she knows that her son must fulfill his destiny. The bond between them symbolizes the ideal relationship of duty and love. Even in the face of great sorrow, Kaushalya supports her son’s mission, showing the strength and selflessness of a mother’s love.
